New CD Album Releases, 2-23-2010: Johnny Cash, George Jones, Plimsouls This week we get American VI: Ain't No Grave. This sixth release is billed as the final installment of Johnny Cash's American Recordings with Rick Rubin. I haven't heard this yet, but I can pretty well guarantee that this is hot stuff. There was some kind of chemistry between Cash and Rubin that brought out Johnny's highest artistic ambitions at the end of his life. All five of the previous albums have been excellent. Indeed the first American Recordings album was probably the best record Johnny Cash ever made.
George Jones: The Great Lost Hits are two CDs of recordings from 1965 to 1972 for Musicor Records. They have been tied up in litigation and unavailable in any form for some years.
