I wouldn't want to ask people to just give me money cause they like my website, but do please take a quick look at Barger's Boutique. You might find yourself a little something-something for 2 or 3 bucks that you just can't resist! Any of the round images you find around MoreThings will get you to an Amazon page to buy my stuff and help ol' Al keep the lights on.
Links
To explicitly state the obvious, these external links go to interesting and provocative websites, but they speak for themselves. I don't necessarily agree with anything they say - especially that no-goodnik Richard Marcus.

One Night Stand!: Sam Cooke Live at the Harlem Square Club Brother Blogcritic John Owen has a new essay on Sam Cooke that is particularly good writing. For starters, he's describing the album One Night Stand!: Sam Cooke Live at the Harlem Square Club which was recorded in Florida in 1963.
This was a really remarkable recording, only released in 1985, some 20 years after Cooke's tragic and tawdry death. One of Owens more interesting remarks was to note that "Lightweight teenybopper pop fare like Cooke's fad single "Twistin' The Night Away" becomes more serious, like the last party before Judgment Day." Maybe it's partly because our awareness of his death just two years down the line tinges the experience, but now that he mentions it this whole album has a bit of a sense of urgency as if he were partying like it's 1999.
But John describes it better than I would know how to. CLICK HERE to read his story, or CLICK HERE to leave comments.
And most definitely buy this beautful album. This would be THE place to start a new Sam Cooke fan.
