Sinéad Marie Bernadette O'Connor

Sinead O'Connor is the singingest bitch walking the Earth.

The damnedest one thing about Sinead O'Connor is how her music naturally and effortlessly mixes the ancient and the modern.  She often uses the the most technologically cutting edge synthesizer sounds and hip hop dance beats to tell the tales of ghosts wandering the seashore or fights with dragons.  If you wanted to indulge the new age language, she would probably be described as an "old soul."

However you want to cut it, she has already written a couple of dozen classic songs.  Her vocal instrument has great power and nuance, and the girl's got soul like you wouldn't believe.  

She can also do amazing things with a cover song.  You've just GOT to hear her version of Bobbie Gentry's classic "Ode to Bille Joe."

Also, you badly need to see the awesome 2003 DVD of a Dublin concert recording Goodnight, Thank You, You've Been a Lovely Audience. You could see easily enough in what was nominally intended as a final professional statement that she has way too much fire in her belly to have stayed retired for long.  And you just don't KNOW till you see this performance of "Fire on Babylon."  Holy crap!

For my part, I'd vote for Sinead O'Connor for Pope.  I'm just saying.
